Pale girl in black

Long post today with two outfits (yesterday and today), and a (non-sponsory) plug for a potential new magazine, Basse Mode, that you might have read about on other bloggers' sites. And as per the post title, I'm wearing black tops in all photos.

Here's a quick pic from yesterday of me in my little sleeveless shirt and without my glasses. It has been determined that I am less likely to make ridiculous faces if I am not wearing my glasses. If I am, my eyebrows seem to start acting up like a character in a melodrama (usually the villain).

Amazing! I now have 2 pairs of jeans. Double the amount. My mother brought me home another pair that she thrifted (my mom is where my sister and I learned to thrift). I decided to try working a head scarf today, in a quasi-gypsy sort of way. You know, if there were albino gypsies. This is sort of a dress over jeans look, but the "dress" is very short. My mom thought it was a shirt when I bought it! I would never wear it without leggings or (now) jeans underneath, because I don't feel like flashing my panties at people. But these jeans have a much slimmer fit than my others, so I might start experimenting more with the whole dress over jeans thing.

Dress/Top - George
Shoes - Earth Spirit

You might have noticed the new little widget thing on the side of my blog here, advertising for Basse Mode. It's a self-advertised "low fashion" magazine that's in the works. "Low fashion" as opposed to "high fashion" or haute couture, this magazine aims to be a hard copy mag "about what real women wear, feel and believe". Take a look at the website and see what you think. Follow them on twitter, answer their short questionnaire (warning, the amounts are in british pounds sterling, not US dollars), keep up to date by emails, even put a button like mine up on your own blog.

tooling around town

So, I didn't get the job I was applying for. My boss, in the nicest way possible, told me I totally blew the interview. Which is something I have a habit of doing. So today I'm going to tool around my tiny little town (1 stoplight in the entire county) and just look around in some of the stores for inspiration.

shoes - no boundaries
jeans - old navy (come on, I have one pair of jeans!)
top - George
leather jacket - Wilson's Leather
jewelry - self-made except spoon ring

One neat thing in town was a photo I got. It's of the space between two buildings where the snow/ice is still holding out, waiting for a hot day.

Screw raindrops on roses...

These are a few of my favorite things. And by things, I mean jewelry that I personally have made.

First, the famous teapot necklace, AKA the one up top there on my page in the poladroid picture, and the one I seem to be wearing in every other outfit post.

The "chain" necklace I created out of double layers of jump rings (jewelry doo-dads).

Two little pendants here, a curvy woman (headless) and an adorable little faux magnifying glass with a pretend fingerprint.

This is a stone pendant I bought down at the beach this summer, and for a while I was wearing this necklace every Sunday.

And true, I didn't make this, but I wanted to show off my spoon ring again. From a little antique store in New Harmony, IN to my chubby little hands!

Do you have favorite jewelry? Or make your own?

hot-blooded! check it and see...

I don't know about you (other women), but when I have my period, I am always overheated. No need for blush today! Not that I wear any anyway... So, not only was I feeling hot, the building was overheated at work today, too. It varies pretty much between too cold and too hot though, so I always have some layers there. A cardigan here, a jacket there... Nothing today though. I wore this light blouse with a pinky purple t-shirt underneath to keep my bra from showing and keep from freezing. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I shudder to think of how hot I would have gotten if my hair had still been long like it was a half year ago (think mid-back length and unlayered).

Pants - White Stag (yes, the ones from yesterday. I wore them to church only, so stop judging me and deciding I am filthy.)
Blouse - Faded Glory
T-shirt - unknown thrift

Taking these pictures, my dad was apparently under the impression that we were at a rave. He told me that I somehow made this one happen. Uh, I don't think so. But it is stunning, isn't it?

You're letting go of strings, replacing them with light

Yes, I have ventured out into the world. Pictures of me outside, in the wild, in the sunshine without my pasty skin bursting into flame! It's amazing! My little shoes, on the grass!

My face, pensively looking out and breathing fresh air!

The new necklace I made in stunning closeup!

Me, again, not looking like a person who uses excessive exclamation points!

Black Pants - White Stag

Black Shirt - A.N.A.

Spoon Ring
Necklace - self-made, and then given to my sister

And now, your moment of ultimate cuteness...my niece and god-daughter:

I need your sweet love to beat love away

I like army green as much as any pacifist (if not more), but not enough to purposefully wear it two days in a row. It just happened that way. Don't judge me! This jacket is large enough to button over my chest, which means that it's fairly loose around my waist. And yes, my arms are teeny tiny short, resulting in looong sleeves, which I actually like. (When all jackets are like this, you either like it, or learn to sew so you can fix them.) The white shirt caused me problems at lunch though, as I accidentally flung soy sauce from my dumplings onto it. But this seems to be a running Saturday problem for me, so you would think I would just wear a brown/black shirt...sigh. Here, we'll sepia-tone the photo and pretend that I wore this a long time ago, before color pictures.

You can't see my Crocs, but I'm wearing them. I have plain black ones, that make my feet happy, so any overly judgemental fashionistas can just choke on them. Plus, I danced a ton last night at a bluegrass music "jamboree" with my sister, niece, and nephew, so my feet needed some comfort.

Jacket - Faded Glory
plain white shirt with no label
Jeans - Old Navy
Shoes (unseen) - Crocs
teapot necklace!

Welcome to the Circus!

From here on out, this shall be referred to as my circus skirt. I thrifted it (brand new with the dye tag still in it!) because of the cute crinoline detail poking out. I not a particular fan of pink, even though it looks great with my pale skin, or of army green as a "cute" skirt color. But it all works in this skirt, which makes me think of a circus for some reason. My sister is very jealous that I managed to find an adult Hanna Anderson item thrifting (I didn't notice the label till I showed her!) because their adorable kids clothes last forever so it stands to reason this will too. My shirt is within a shade's inch of precisely matching the green stripe on the skirt, so I feel all matchy like a real grownup, but I managed to squash that with my legwarmers.

skirt - Hanna Anderson
top - Old Navy
shrug - Mossimo
leg warmers - Sock Dreams
shoes - Lower East Side (and very very old)
necklace - self-made
spoon ring - yeah, you know the story

wood is hard

I had pictures on here before of my lovely jewelry board that I got as a Christmas prezzie from my sister and brother-in-law. Jen had put multi-colored pushpins in, because that was all she had at home, telling me to get some different ones at Michaels the next time I was in. I finally got around to it, and here's a lovely before and after!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I even added another on the very end for my spoon ring! It's the only ring I wear, so I figure it deserves it's own little hanger. The ones I picked are Ook brand, and here's a better picture of them:

As for the title of this post, the "bar" part of my jewelry board is simply very (very very very) hard wood covered in fabric. So, it took a hammer to take out the pushpins AND to smack in the new hangers.
