One Book...

One book that changed your life: Tam Lin by Pamela Dean, the best ballad retelling set in 1970's America at university with English majors.

One book you have read more than once: Every book I've read and liked.

One book you would want on a desert island: My Kindle! Or if I have to pick, then either Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen or Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

One book that made you laugh: Everything by Jasper Fforde.

One book you wish had never been written: The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. Her book The Secret Life of Bees was so good, and then her second book was such an interminable trudge that no one at the library I worked at was able to finish it.

One book that made you cry: Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. When Matthew dies....

One book you are currently reading: Boneshaker by Cherie Priest, a neat steampunk historical re-imagining.

One book you have been meaning to read: Pirate King by Laurie King, the new Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes book.

One book you wish everyone would read: Revelations of Divine Love by Julian of Norwich.

  1. 1. I totally agree about The Mermaid Chair. I think I did finish it, giving Kidd the benefit of the doubt ... but it was truly awful.

    2. I am forever indebted to you for introducing me to Tam Lin, which is so strange but I love it.

    3. Definitely some new ones to put on the list! Thanks!

  2. I LOVE Tam Lin. It was the book I read and reread in my 20s. I never was an English major, but I got to be one vicariously by reading the book. :)
