29!

This dress just lends itself so well to black and white...

Yes, today is my birthday! (29 on the 29th!)  There will be lovely cake and yummy pizza tonight and PRESENTS!!!  Not that presents are important...or that I helped my parents pick out a Roku box for myself...
Anyway. I took pictures EARLY!  In the morning, so I don't look all tired and sweaty!  Instead, I look...tired.  Hmmm.  But my socks are very cool.

You can't see my beautiful white hairs (no joking, I love them!) but you can see my lucky number 9 necklace and my matching number 0 earrings (matching each other obviously, not the necklace).

Fashion Baby

Yesterday was an important day.  And important days require important shoes!
Madden Girl shoes
Notice that pink button on the sides of the shoes?  As I flipped through my closet, thinking "All my clothes are black or have black in them, what do I have that'll go with brown shoes?", I saw the pink button again.  And then I saw my circus skirt!
EXACT COLOR MATCH!  And speaking of exact color match, see the army green stripe in the skirt?  I have t-shirt that matches it!  BUT.  Yesterday was a VERY IMPORTANT DAY.  Not really a t-shirt day...so, dig dig dig through the closet...and TADA!  Pink sequined short sleeved cardigan!
Silver ring, silver branch earrings, and my long pink bead silver locket necklace as jewelry finished it off.  My newly thrifted $2 shoes may need some more padding inside, but there's no doubt that they are as cute as their little pink button!

Fascinating Sunday

High heels make Erin TALL!
I debuted my fascinator at church yesterday.
Fascinating, no?

Let's hear it for air conditioning!

I know, long sleeves in this HOT summer weather? Crazy, right?  Unless your desk is right next to the AC unit at work.  Then it's a brilliant idea!  It was only in the high 80's taking these photos after I got home around 6pm.

Big Girl Shoes

Yeah, yeah, I wore clothes today.  The important thing is that I went thrifting after work and got a cute $2 pair of "blogger" shoes.  I'm using quotes because to me they look as cool as the shoes I see on high profile fashion bloggers' sites.  (I'm looking at you, Maria and Chelsea!)  Are you ready for the cuteness?
That says "Madden Girl".  And my shoe size.
And to show you how high the heel is (the highest in my closet by FAR):

tired and sweaty

I went shopping yesterday after work.  At work, there is nice AC.  In the world outside, it's roughly 97ish.  Hence the post title.

I wore some new earrings I made yesterday; quick and simple ones, just pendants on french ear wires:

Yes, I know my blog is becoming a what jewelry I wore blog.  Get used to it.  I usually find my jewelry to be much more interesting than my clothes!

Here's a shot of the necklace I wore (very time consuming to make, but very pretty with the right neckline!):
Is there an accessory you wear all the time that you pay MORE attention to than your actual clothes?  Jewelry, scarves, pretty shoes?

Double your pleasure

I wore this Saturday, and it didn't look nearly as sacklike and shapeless in person.  It's hard to tell from the photo, but there's a dark gray tank under the dress so I don't have to worry about flashing patrons any cleav.

Today for church I wore purple and black, a combo I like.  (And yes, most of my favorite combos are -- and black!)
My sister has started making her own fascinators.  I don't know if she'll start selling them on Etsy; right now she's just making them for herself.  But she gave me this one!

Nature Girl

Just to let you know, this idyllic looking wonderland is actually right outside my front door.  See, if you let your garden grow wild (and let kudzu attack the yard), you too can end up with a gorgeous jungle without any work!
This little necklace draws more positive comments than any other.  It was incredibly easy to make and the bird (I think it looks like a dove) was reasonably cheap.  Do you guys think I should make more and sell them in my Etsy store?
Help, my feet were eaten by kudzu!

Thursday 7-15

This is Thursday's outfit.  My cowl-neck thrifted white shirt, my Rider jeans, and a Converse scarf/belt.  These jeans are a little tight, but they worked well with the shirt.
I also wore my Born shoes.  So cute, but they definitely need a little extra padding.

THE BEST FOOD EVER!

Nice little taunt to start with isn't it?  Of course, you're not really interested in that, are you?  You want to know what I wore yesterday, right?
Erin, in happy food coma.  "What? Pose? Smile?"
Okay, okay.  So, I never really mention ANY locations on here.  Where I live, where I work, anything.  But my family went to Roanoke, VA yesterday (about an hour away from where I live) and ate.  AND IT WAS SOO GOOD.  I must tell you about it, with links in case you are ever in the area.  We went to The Isaacs Restaurant for dinner and Bubblecake Bake Shop for dessert and afterwards I was so full that it was delicious misery.

The Isaacs is a Mediterranean place, and I had the sampler (which is all Greek food).  Beef samosas, spanikopita, and falafel bites.  Okay, falafel bites, yuck from me but a cheer from my dad.  I don't like chickpeas.  The samosas...I had never had them before and they almost made me swoon.  Beef seasoned with ginger and cilantro, in little puff-pastry pockets.  And they served it with a ginger-mango chutney that I never knew I could love like that on beef...SO GOOD.  And I thought I made a good spanikopita.  NO.  Mine is like something you would find in a SEWER compared to these delicious little triangles of buttery, savory, spinach and feta.  My eyes (figuratively) rolled back in my head!  Their tzatziki was the yummiest, smoothiest blend.  I gobbled mine up on some pita and a bite of lamb from my mama's gyro.  (Disclosure: I don't really care about other people's dinners while eating unless I get something really yucky.  My parents seemed to really enjoy theirs as well.  Maybe not as much as me, but I was getting a little super happy.)

Bubblecake is a cupcake shop.  And in my head,(while wanting to go to a cupcake shop for years, ever since they started getting popular!) I wasn't expecting much.  I WAS SO WRONG.  And also so happy.  My mom had a "Black and White babycake" (a mini-cupcake) that was a chocolate cupcake with white vanilla bean icing with a dab of hardened chocolate sauce over the tippy-top.  I had two regular size and paid for it with a food coma.  BUT IT WAS WORTH IT, OKAY?  Extreme Chocolate: the menu said "molten cake" but it was seriously more like a brownie, with huge chunks of chocolate, all topped off with a top of chocolate icing.  And special flavor of the day, Chocolate Raspberry: regular chocolate cupcake, with raspberry icing.  Seriously, the most deliciously delicate, yet determined flavor of raspberry in the icing ever.  With a super-cute flower of gum-paste on top of the icing!  They give you BIG cupcakes with TONS of icing.  Truly, one is enough, or maybe two babycakes.  Especially after a large meal.  BUT.  You never know until you try.

Did you see my earrings?  I rehabbed these after my mom found them thrifting!

This is proof that my crocs (these are even knock-offs that I got from a thrift store) can be cute!)

My mom (aka Tiny Mama) took my full length pictures tonight.  We went outside, and for some reason, she believes that she can't use the zoom buttons, so she'll just back really far away from me!  So tonight, she ended up underneath a huge bush against the wall.
Isn't she cute? And sort of grumpy? See where I get it...
Anyhow, onto the pictures she took of me!  (It's not like she reads my blog anyway.  No, she reads my sister's family blog, but not mine.)
Easily distracted...
I had awesome jewelry again today, of course, and I made it myself, of course.
And earrings shaped like spoon handles.
See how happy they make me, and how you can't see anything up my nose! (I checked long and hard before posting this pic.)

i put my love into a cage...

This is a pendant from the new Industrial Chic line at Michaels.  See, you can find cool stuff at cheap prices!  Cause, with a coupon, this whole necklace cost me maybe $7, not including the cost of my labor (which is HIGH, baby!).  The earrings I wore were partially made from the same line as well (the little gear findings).
This was what I wore yesterday: a simple pair of jeans, two layered tank tops (dark gray and white) and my little heeled sandals.

It's hot here in the mountains, not super hot like in New York or anywhere they've been talking about in the news.  But still, in the 90s, which makes me cranky when I have to spend any time outdoors.  Wanna see the dork cranky face caused by my sister taking my picture?  I knew you did.
But don't worry, kids.  Most of the time I just look like this picture.  Mildly cranky and sarcastic.
DID YOU NOTICE I CUT MY HAIR?!

Fireworks! (a day early)

Erin in Nature TM
We watched the fireworks in town (my little hometown, not the town where I work) last night.  My niece was SUPER excited and declared that she "wanted to BE a firework".  Today is full of a cookout, munchkin sitting, and maybe more fireworks later.

Cowgirl up

Ta-da!  It's my Dialogue shirtwaist dress, now in country style!  The belt is a old thrifted brown leather that cinches in tight around my actual waist and little brown shoes (the Born shoes I thrifted at the beach).
I'm still wearing leggings with it, just because of all the bending and squatting I do at work.  No flashing for me!  I got a few compliments on it, and I really like it, even though it is SO far from my normal style.
Is there anything you wear often that is completely opposite to the rest of your wardrobe?
